Childhood obesity is an epidemic in America today. It is a critical factor is our health care crisis. Yet P.E. (physical education) is not offered in public schools daily. Often it is offered once a week. That puts the time consuming and expensive burden to single parent mothers. There is the YMCA, local county recreation centers, Summer Camps, dance classes, etc. However, not without significant cost. The wealthy can write a check for dance classes and expensive Summer Camps. The lower class can obtain financial assistance through their local government. Middle Class mothers such as myself cannot write a check for
extracurricular activities or qualify for financial assistance. Instead, my children and I suffer from the "Middle Class Crunch." The government should invest in keeping children active during the Summer and throughout the year. The country will benefit from lower health care costs in the long run.
